La Peninsular is a pleasant, small, neat wine bar, and although it is modern and decorated with motifs that help a tourist take those photos that speak for themselves about the location where they were taken, you don’t get the feeling of being in one of the many places in the area that seem to be made from a mold. The girl who served me was very, very kind, friendly and at no point did she make me feel bad for ordering just one bomba and a glass of wine.

From what I have seen and tasted, we could say that, for now, one of the first categorizations that can be made of this tapa is rustic bomba vs. gourmet bomba. I don’t mean by this that one category is objectively superior to the other. It’s all a matter of taste. The rustic one, let’s say, is less aesthetically worked and without any extra, intentional elaboration to distinguish it in that sense.

The one at La Peninsular is more of a gourmet style. The potato inside is not completely mashed and is very creamy, as if it had been slightly confited, which I liked a lot, because most of the bombas I have been tasting are quite dry in that sense. The center is filled with meat and a bit of chopped chorizo, sautéed. It is very tasty, generous, but without reaching the point of going overboard, just to dazzle people with a lot of “meat”. I found that the detail of the chorizo not only differentiated it once again from other bombas, but also, having been sautéed with the meat, made it less dry, thanks to the bit of fat it adds. The aioli is quite mild and the spicy sauce is spicy, but not an exaggerated amount, and since they put it on top and not in excessive quantities, it can be easily removed if you only want the hint of it that the breading is impregnated with. The breading is a thin layer and the general size of the bomba is medium to large. It cost me 2.70 euros.

Let’s say it is one of the pricier ones in the area, but taking into account that it was one of the best I have tried, the size, the kindness, the fact that they had several wine options by the glass (something that doesn’t happen in all the places in the area) and that the place was very pleasant, I think they make it very worth taking a trip there.
