La Peninsular is a pleasant, small, clean wine bar, and although it is modern and decorated with motifs that help a tourist take those photos that speak for themselves about the location where they were taken, you don’t have the feeling of being in one of the many places in the area, which seem to be made from a mold. The girl who served me was very, very kind, friendly and at no time did she make me feel bad for ordering just a bomba and a glass of wine.

From what I have seen and tasted, we could say that, as of now, one of the first categorizations that can be made of this tapa is rustic bomba Vs gourmet bomba. I don’t mean by this that one category is objectively superior to the other. Everything is a matter of taste. The rustic one, let’s say, is less worked aesthetically speaking and without any kind of extra elaboration, intentional, to distinguish it in this sense.

The one at La Peninsular is more of a gourmet style. The potato inside is still a bit whole and is very smooth, as if it had been slightly confited, which I liked a lot, because most of the bombas I have been tasting are quite dry in this sense. The heart is filled with meat and a bit of sautéed chopped chorizo. It is very tasty, generous, but without reaching the point of going overboard, for the sake of wanting to dazzle the crowd with a lot of “stuff”. I found that the detail of the chorizo, not only differentiated it once again from other bombas, but also, having been sautéed with the meat, made it less dry, thanks to the bit of fat it provides. The aioli is quite mild and the spicy sauce is spicy, but not something exaggerated either, besides that since they put them on top and not in exaggerated quantities, it can be easily removed, in case you only want the little touch of what remains impregnated in the batter. The batter is a thin layer and the general size of the bomba is medium tending to large. It cost me 2.70 euros.

It is one of the pricier ones in the area, but taking into account that it was also one of the best I have tried, the size, the kindness, the fact that they had several wine options by the glass, (which does not happen in all the places in the area) and that the place was very pleasant, I think they make it very worth taking a trip there.
